Artist Statement
I am passionate about colour and inspired and intrigued by the many ways it can change with heat, light and mood. I use bold, vibrant colours to create depth and excitement in my textile art, showing influences from my travels in India and South America.
My textiles are colourful and quirky, textured and expressive. I am fascinated by contrasts and developing patterns – the unexpected and unusual rather than the formal, obvious and structured.
By combining and recycling layers of textiles with machine embroidery, hand stitch and embellishments, I create one-off pieces of work that are spirited and stimulating. I aim to excite, engage and challenge the viewer with my choice of materials, composition and exploration of surfaces.
As well as being a founder member of Fusion, I am an active member of prism, and I have my own studio in the heart of Durham City. This is where I create my own work, run workshops and teach City & Guilds courses (up to diploma level) and a Master Class. I am also a student myself, as I think that there is still so much to learn and the journey just gets more exciting!
