Artist Statement

When a friend, who knew of my interest in embroidery, introduced me to a local City & Guilds course in Creative Studies, Embroidery and Design, little did I realise how much it would change my life.
I discovered a love for hand stitch, colour and pattern. These important elements still form the basis of my work.
Since completing the course at New College Durham, I have become  a member of the Fusion Textile Artists Group and have exhibited with them at Farfield Mill, Sedbergh 2005, the D.L.I. Museum & Durham Art Gallery 2006, and Bede’s World, Jarrow 2007.
I have exhibited with the Durham Branch of the Embroiderer’s Guild at Durham Cathedral in 2005, Hartlepool Art Gallery 2006, and as a guild member, have also been involved with conservation work at the Oriental Museum.
For many years now, I have been a member of Cestria Patchwork and Quilting Group in Chester-le-Street.
I also attend Master Classes with tutor Maggie Smith, which help me to clarify my ideas, and extend and develop my creativity.
