Artist Statement A fascination with yarn and thread led to my early passion for knitting which converted gradually to an obsession with fabric and stitch.
There is always something to inspire my work and I take lots of photographs wherever I go. Being a member of two exhibiting groups plus the Embroiderers’ Guild means there is always some topic to focus on.
I value the contact I have with other textile artists - especially those in the FUSION Group - watching their work progress and exchanging ideas and information with them. As well as giving talks to interested groups I am also keen to learn from other people
Recent influences by people like Maggie Grey, Ruth Issett and Alysn Midgelow-Marsden have led to the incorporation of paper, paint, texture gels, plastic and metal into my work, which I hope enhance rather than detract from the fabric and threads. Eyelet punch, drill, pliers and sandpaper are now part of the workbox and DIY shops as well as the family litter bin are sources for materials, as are junk shops and girlie accessories shops. Belts, necklaces, ear-rings and bracelets provide excellent sources of texture to incorporate into pieces of work, and paper clay provides a brilliant medium for transferring shape and texture. |
