Artist Statement

The process of transforming a surface with stitched threads continues to compel and challenge me.

Working with stitch fills me with an intense sense of purpose and contentment. It provides a deeply satisfying way to translate my ideas into a physical reality. Over the years this determination has led me to pursue experimental processes creating original and individual surfaces for stitch using fabrics, papers and fibres.

I am inspired by a love of ornate and intricate surfaces. My work is a reflection of my preoccupations and concerns recently I have been focusing on the themes of reflection and identity.

I work in hand and machine stitch, employing both traditional and innovative techniques to create richly textured, tactile surfaces. Raised surfaces are a significant element in my work. Curves, curls and flowing lines are a recurring theme. I am fascinated by the challenge of construction and creation of three dimensional pieces of work.
